Although I have been taking photographs for many years, I became a lot more 'serious' about it in 2007 when I switched to digital. The flexibility of digital allowed me to experiment more and learn quickly. I joined the Royal Photographic Society and received my Licentiateship distinction in July 2008.
I like to try and capture just a glimpse of what nature offers us; the changing seasons, variable weather and wonderful light. The British have a reputation for complaining about the weather, but as a photographer I feel privileged to live here – with lots of coastline and an unpredictable climate, it makes for great photographic opportunities. And all those grey, rainy days?..... well, that's the time for processing your pictures, of course!
Although all digital images have to be processed to some extent to make them useable, I do try and keep manipulation to a minimum and render the image in the way I remember seeing it. I firmly believe that it is better to get the image right 'in the camera' and then do as little as possible to it on the computer. If I do feel the need to 'manipulate' an image, I will always try to tell you about it.
The majority of my images are currently taken on and around my home patch – the Wirral, in the North West of England, with occasional forays to other parts of this beautiful country. I rarely travel to another part of the country (or the world) just to get a picture, but if I happen to be on holiday, of course I will take my camera!
Capturing these images has sometimes been a challenge but always a pleasure. I hope you enjoy them too.
